Sunset Beach Hotel sits on a granite outcropping of rocks in the north west section of Mahe Island. The hotel sits above the Indian Ocean with its golden beach and the Bay of Beau Vallon. From the deck of the restaurant guests can stare out at the islands of Silhouette and L’ Ile du Nord. This Seychelles retreat promises privacy and beauty on the rock outcropping where large trees shade beach goers.
Guests may want to travel around the island to see Baie Ternay Marine National Park or Therese Island nearby. Mahe Island offers many rare endemic plants, along with various tropical mammal species. Tours of the Island can be found during your stay if you wish to see some of the historical and cultural areas and buildings that make up the island. It is also possible to rent boats for fishing, diving, or island tours. By visiting Ste. Anne Marine Park guests can also see the main six islands that make up the marine park.
Mahe Island was inhabited by native cultures, British and French. The first British to visit Mahe were in 1609. However, the next Europeans to visit the island were part of Lazare Picault’s expedition in 1742. It was under French possession until 1812, when the British gained control until 1976. Since 1976 Seychelles and Mahe Island have been independent. Mahe Island is known as a popular tropical destination in the Indian Ocean.
Sunset Beach Hotel is unlike many of the resorts on the island due to its location. It is set on the rock outcropping, away from main city life and other accommodations. Visitors can truly feel their privacy is maintained staying at Sunset Beach Hotel. Its views are amazing whether it is a sunrise or sunset you are watching. With a bar and restaurant for open air dining one’s stay can be complete.
Sunset Beach Hotel offers 28 furnished rooms, with décor based on the tropical location. There are 15 ocean view rooms, 9 junior suites, and two luxury villas. The villas have two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Room amenities include a patio or terrace, television, air conditioning, room safe, tea/ coffee facilities, mini bar, and laundry services.
On the Rocks Bar presents nightly sunsets and ocean views for cocktail hour. On the Rocks has cocktails and snacks. The Silhouette is the open air dining area with International, Creole, and French Cuisine. The restaurant offers a buffet breakfast, as well as evening meals.
Outdoor swimming at the pool or in the ocean is possible. Scuba diving, weddings, water sports, and tours can be organized through the hotel reception. The main attraction of Sunset Beach Hotel is the boat charter. The Mary Mary is a high speed cruiser over 15 meters in length. The interior and furnishings are Italian offering comfort while visitors tour the bay and surrounding area.
Mahe Island has three marine parks to visit by land or sea. Baie Ternay Marine National Park, Port Launay Marine National Park, and Ste. Anne Marine National Park offer plenty of recreational activities from swimming, snorkeling, diving, to picnicking. Ste. Anne Marin National Park is 5 kilometers from Victoria, which is the capital of Mahe Island. The park is made up of six smaller islands including Ste. Anne Island, Cerf Island, Ile Cachee, Round Island, Long Island, and Moyenne Island. The Mary Mary can be chartered for a day excursion or overnight charter, which can include meals.
