The Sunbird Livingstonia is one of seven hotels within the Sunbird Group and carries with it the tradition of warm Malawian hospitality, the group is known for. Located in scenic Senga Bay, Salima, Malawi, it is 125 kilometers from the capital Lilongwe, which translates to about a 2 hours drive.
The shoreline is breathtaking, with a little island off the main land, we had the pleasure to explore (on a paddle ski) We leant how to sail on the hotel’s catamaran, and took a swim in the hotels pool.
Being Africa, the climate is hot and humid, and these refreshing activities add to the appeal of your stay.
The Sunbird Livingstonia, named after “Dr David Livingston” a 19 Centaury explorer and naturalist, has a romantic colonial, charm to it and offers a splendid stay. Not far from the hotel, there are lovely craft markets, and a little further on a World Wildlife funded research station. (Where the fish of the Malawian lake have been painstakingly “scientifically identified”, some fish species are completely unique to the lake)
The views from here are remarkable, sweeping across the lake, and across the mountains.
Accommodation in the Sunbird Livingstonia range from the standard to superior chalets, which are available all year round. There are 12 standard rooms, 4 deluxe rooms, 3 family rooms and 13 superior. All are equipped with satellite TVs, coffee-making facilities, bathrooms, air conditioning, and phones. The family rooms have a garden view.
The resort is dotted with palm trees, with the white-washed, African colonial style chalets placed strategically to take full advantage of the view. Luxury suits have a view of the water, and you can spend quiet and peaceful evenings sipping a nice cold drink as you watch the lanterns of the fishermen’s boats twinkle in the horizon.
You can have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner delivered right to your room or you can savour delicious Malawian and international cuisine in either of the two restaurants. You can choose the open air terrace restaurant if you wish to dine al fresco or choose the pleasant and comfortable settings of the formal dining room. The hotel’s specialty barbeque is something special.
For drinks, clients have the option of the pool side bar or the beach bar. It doesn’t matter whether you are lounging by the pool or enjoying the cool beach waters. There’s always a bar within easy reach to quench your thirst.
