Sun n Sand Beach Resort is an all-inclusive 4 star beachfront resort situated on an 18-acre palm-lined property in the Kikambala area on the north coast of Kenya. The resort is approximately 28km from mainland Mombasa, 32km from Moi International Airport and easily reached by road.
The entire resort has an Arabian feel to it with domed buildings, decorative awnings, abundant palm trees and oasis-like pool areas.
The pools are simply gorgeous and form all kinds of patterns as they wind between the many buildings on the property. There are three saltwater pools, one freshwater pool, two toddler pools and even two outdoor Jacuzzis. So it isnt difficult to guess what the main pass time at Sun n Sand and entails, especially as they have ample sun loungers and supply beach towels for your personal use. One of the saltwater pools even has waterslides and built-in sunken sunbeds, as well as a swim-up bar.
But don't worry if you're after more active ways of spending your time they also have a great variety of on and off-site pastimes to keep you entertained for hours on end. These include windsurfing, game fishing, water polo, volleyball, giant chess, snooker, darts, lawn tennis and lots more. They also have a PADI scuba diving school that offers guests a free 45 minute lesson in the resorts pool, including the use of their equipment. For the more culturally aware the hotel can even arrange Swahili lessons!
Their gardens are really pretty and you get the feeling that you are in some kind of an island paradise, especially once you hit the beautiful white beach.
Sun n Sand is a great family resort and has tons of things to keep the little ones occupied. Their Sunshine Kids Club caters for 4 to 11 year-olds and is open 6 days a week offering fun activities, tours of the hotels tropical fish breeding farm, swings, story time, arts and crafts and much more.
When it comes to dining youre really spoilt for choice. The resort has five restaurants to choose from, including an oriental one, a grill house and a themed buffet restaurant. And at night the place comes alive with traditional dancers, live bands, discos, acrobatics, cabaret and themed evenings.
The hotel has been involved in a great deal of community upliftment projects, aiding the eradication of poverty in the area, the development of eco tourism, the provision of social services and involvement in school programmes to help educate the youth. The great thing about this is that your stay at Sun n Sand will indirectly help the local community to build a brighter future.
This place is really picturesque and beautifully designed. The palm trees that adorn the property give it that tropical paradise feeling, making it hard to leave the place. We loved the great swimming pools, the scenic stretch of beach and the friendly atmosphere. Sun n Sand is ideal for a dream holiday, romantic wedding or simply a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. A true Kenyan gem.
Sun n Sand has 300 rooms and four room types to choose from. The architecture of the buildings is Arabic-inspired with lots of small details and domed buildings. The rooms are spread out over four storeys in pretty peach and white coloured buildings.
All room types are air-conditioned with balconies, safes, pedestal fans, satellite television, a mini-fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.
The Standard Rooms are spread out over four floors and all overlook the resorts well-kempt gardens. The rooms are bright, airy and comfortable and come equipped with a queen size and a single bed.
There are also 35 Deluxe Rooms with great views of the ocean. These rooms are quite large and all have comfortable coffee/tea bars for that first-thing-in-the-morning cuppa.
The Executive Rooms are ideal for those looking for even more space, as they have an additional lounge for relaxing or entertaining friends and two sea-facing balconies. The beds are large and come equipped with draped mosquito nets. They have similar amenities to the Deluxe Rooms and also have great ocean views.
The most luxurious of the rooms is the Royal Suite. This large and luxurious room faces the sea and has two bedrooms with large King size beds, an additional lounge and superior furnishings and three sea-facing balconies.
Sun ‘n Sand sports five restaurants, a snack bar and 3 drinks bars with varied specialities.
The Fahari Restaurant is a casual smart buffet restaurant overlooking the Indian Ocean. They offer all kinds of international buffet dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dinners are usually themed and change every evening. The Safina A La Carte offers good international dishes, seafood and grills. Meals from this restaurant are not included in your package, but the food is well worth the extra charge. It’s usually a good idea to book your table in advance as Safina can get quite busy.

La Stella, overlooking the beachfront lawns of the property and offering Italian meals of a high quality. This restaurant is rather elegant and the service is quite good.
All the resort’s restaurants have a casual-smart dress code and no shorts, swimwear or faded jeans are allowed.
Sun ‘n Sand also has an array of bars serving great pre-dinner cocktails, sundowners and all-round quenching drinks. The Safina Snack Bar is open all day and serves light meals, snacks and some good hot dishes from their a la carte menu. It also serves tea and coffee, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including bottled water, fruit juices, selected wines and spirits.
The Bahari is a swim-up bar at one of the five swimming pools and gives you a great reason not to leave the cool waters during the day.
