Climb one of the most scenic and beautiful routes of Kilimanjaro, the Machame Route. This route is a good challenge, yet accessible for all types of climbers and hikers. Unlike the Marangu Route on this route you will sleep in tents which makes this trip a bit more adventurous and make you feel like an explorer.

The Rongai route begins on the northern side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border and the ascent is one of the least travelled routes. Rongai is slowly gaining in popularity. You get to view the North side of Kilimanjaro, sleep in tents and have a more gradual climb. Although it starts off with a long drive to the starting point, you will be rewarded by fantastic views and also by the likelihood that you will be the only climbers around on the way up.

The Shira Plateau west of Kibo is the remains of Kilimanjaro’s first volcano. Mawenzi erupted second, and finally, supported by its neighbours, Kibo rose to its great height between Shira and Mawenzi. Older and more eroded than Mawenzi, the Shira Plateau’s ridges and moor land comprise one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic areas. The Shira Route traverses the large Shira Plateau to join the Machame Route.
