Located on the island of Zanzibar, the Sandies Mapenzi Beach Club is an elegant three star all inclusive resort that offers guests a great place to take an exotic vacation. The resort is 45 kilometers from Stone Town and the international airport, set on four hectares of land that is covered with pink bougainvillea and coconut groves. Each accommodation is a thatched bungalow with its own private patio that is decorated in traditional East African style with hand carved wood and coral walls. Zanzibar is actually a part of an archipelago off of Tanzania, Africa. It has a long trading history and Stone Town is considered a world heritage site with plenty of historical attractions that appeal to the guests to the island. The island has always been known for its spice trade and guests to the resort will love the spice tour. Zanzibar is still referred to as the Spice Islands due to the large amount of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper that is still grown there. In addition to the beautiful scenery and historical sites, Zanzibar is also the endemic home of the Zanzibar Red Colobus and the Zanzibar Leopard.
Guests should be aware that Zanzibar falls in the malaria area of Africa and that they should consult their doctor before visiting. It is a good idea for guests to also be vaccinated against yellow fever and they should bring their vaccination certificate with them.
The accommodations at the Sandies Mapenzi Beach Club are open and airy bungalows that feature a thatched roof. There are 87 rooms, 30 of which are deluxe beach front rooms with Wi-Fi internet, 36 superior sea facing rooms that face the sea, and 21 superior garden rooms facing the gardens. Each room includes the following amenities standard: mosquito netting over the beds; private verandas; canopy beds; large bathrooms with walk-in shower; ceiling fan; air conditioning; telephone; personal safe; hairdryer; coffee and tea making facilities; stocked mini bar; and shave plug point in bathroom.
TBecause the Sandies Mapenzi Beach Club is an all exclusive resort guests have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of foods and drinks during their stay. The main restaurant at the resort serves a breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet that includes a Swahili corner. The fare served here is international cuisine as well as local dishes. The evening dinners usually feature a different theme and once a week there is a traditional African dinner on the beach.
The Nukupenda Pizzeria is located near the beach and is open for dinner only. Guests of the resorts can dine there as part of their package once during their stay. The Suli Suli restaurant serves ala carte seafood fare right on the beach in small gazebos. Reservations are required to dine here and it is not included in the all inclusive package.
The pool bar is located near the resort’s pool area and offers guests snacks, soft drinks, fruit juices, cocktails, tea and coffee and house wine. There are spirits available after 6pm and all drinks after midnight and premium brand liquors are served at charge. The beach bar serves guests snacks, soft drinks, fruit juices, beer, house wine, and tea and coffee until 6pm. The Alif Laila is a shisha bar and offers guests a wide variety of Arabic coffee, tea and shisha at a charge.
Guests who visit the resort can enjoy a wide variety of activities that will make their stay more enjoyable. The hotel offers boat excursions, sightseeing tours, safaris in Tanzania, deep sea fishing, canoeing, snorkeling trips to Mnemba Marine Park and diving activities as part of their all inclusive package.
For those guests who do not do well on the water, the hotel offers many daily activities including a full service water gym, beach volley ball, table tennis, a disco, darts, billiards, archery and football. The resort also has a beautiful swimming pool for guests to use and access to the island’s white sand beaches. Guests are welcome to also enjoy the services at the Hibiscus spa facility for an additional charge. There is also evening entertainment available at the resort that includes live music, traditional African shows and karaoke nights.
The island of Zanzibar also offers guests a wide variety of activities and historical attractions to view. There are many beaches with lagoons and coral reefs to explore as well as scuba diving in some of the best unexplored waters in the world. The waters are filled with dolphins and guests can take dolphin spotting tours where they may even be able to swim with them. Some of the historic sites include Stone Town, Jozani Forest, Mbweni Ruins, Mtonil Ruins, Kidichi Persian Baths and the Mruhubi Ruins. Some of these activities are at an additional charge.
