Located on Nosy Sakatia Island, part of Nosy Be, Madagascar, is Sakatia Lodge. The lodge was built in 2006 and owners Jose and Isabella are proud of their little piece of paradise. The resort itself sits at the base of the Sacred Mountain and Nature Reserve on the island’s east side and it overlooks the ocean from a protected bay and is fringed by the Sakatia sacred forest. Considered a natural paradise, Sakatia Lodge is the perfect place for couples and families alike.
Sakatia Lodge is surrounded by unspoiled tropical foliage, fauna and flora and the island that it sits on is only 6.5 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide at its widest point. It is not a crowded tourist destination and there are only 300 inhabitants on the island all year round. There are no roads on Sakatia Island, and guests will enjoy walking along the foot paths as they explore the exotic beauty of its deserted beaches or snorkel and dive among the beautiful coral reef that surrounds it. There are no cars or bicycles on the island which makes it perfect for guests who bring their small children.
Because Sakatia Lodge is small and guests are pampered by the owners on a very personal basis it can only handle twenty people at one time. It has nine bungalows for guests to enjoy, one of which is suitable for handicapped guests. Each of the bungalows is equipped with a veranda, bathroom, shower, separate toilet, hot water, fan, and mosquito nets.
There are four large, ocean facing bungalows that are equipped with single or double beds and a sleeper couch. The four smaller, garden bungalows are also equipped with single or double beds. These four bungalows have showers but they are cold water showers only. There is one large double family bungalow at the resort that comes with one queen size bed and two single beds to accommodate larger groups visiting Sakatia Island. This bungalow also has a table with four chairs on the veranda.
The intimate setting and personal service at Sakatia Lodge includes the onsite restaurant as well as its separate lounge and bar area. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and features ethnic South African and Malagasy cuisine. The bar and restaurant both overlook the ocean and is surrounded by the sacred Sakatia forest.
Guests at Sakatia lodge can enjoy a wide variety of activities while they are visiting this area of Madagascar. They have their own NAUI approved dive center that is affiliated to DAN SA. Guests can enjoy scuba diving, night diving, and Nitrox diving in addition to taking standard diving and specialty diving courses. The dive center caters to beginner and advanced divers and the many different diving sites around the island range in depth from six meters to fifty meters. These dive sites include beautiful underwater sights such as coral reefs, pinnacles, drops, sand, and walls for divers to explore.
Guests who prefer not to go diving or snorkelling can enjoy fishing, canoeing, boat rides, and dolphin and whale sightings. Additionally, scenic nature walks, bird watching and quad biking are also available for guests to enjoy when they are not relaxing at the lodge and taking in the peaceful surroundings of their bungalows.
