About Ras Nunwgi

This is by far the best accommodation in the Nungwi area. The hotel is fairly large and is very well run. It has all the outdoor facilities you may want combined with excellent service and food.

The staff are friendly and the place is kept very neat and clean. The hotel was one of the first to be established in Zanzibar after the government realised the potential for tourism and opened the doors. They managed to secure one of the best sites on the island to erect the hotel. Ras Nungwi is situated on the tip of the Nungwi coastline. From here the best diving reefs are easily accessible and the views are spectacular. We do not even want to mention that they have the greatest stretch of beach on the island. They have two fantastic restaurants and a great bar area. The hotel is very popular with honeymooners and we have to agree. The location is idyllic, and the place is romantic.

Rooms at Ras Nunwgi

There are a total of 32 rooms with various room options available. The Superior chalet and the normal chalets all have views of the ocean, while the lodge accommodation overlooks the beautiful gardens. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with ceiling fans and balconies. The Superior chalet has air-conditioning. All rooms are furnished in an authentic Zanzibari style with four poster beds and mosquito netting. The closer you get to the sea, the more expensive the rooms become. There are 4 Superior deluxe rooms, 10 Superior chalets, 7 chalets and 11 lodge rooms. All rooms sort of move back from the sea, with the superior deluxe rooms having the best view. Value for money is the superior chalets, as they have good views of the sea and there is not much difference between them and the superior deluxe.

Dining

There are two restaurants and a beach bar. We found the cuisine and service at Ras Nungwi excellent. The Zanzibarian chef prepares wonderful traditional meals using traditional sauces made with island spices and coconut. It may be fresh line fish one night and curried calamari the next. You can wash this down with a selection of fine South African wines. Meals vary between buffet, barbeque and set menus; occasionally live music is available.
There’s a wide choice of fruit and pastry for breakfast. Lunch is kept light and tasty, as you often don’t want something heavy in the heat of the day.

Facilities

The hotel has numerous facilities, which include:

  • Full water sports.
  • They have a full PADI certified dive school and various dive locations, windsurfing, water skiing, kayaking, dhow cruise, deep sea fishing and snorkeling.
  • Swimming pool for guests.
  • Transfers can be arranged from Stone Town.
  • Telephone facilities.

You have to pay for any water sports so please contact us for any of your water sport requirements, and we will give you a better rate than what you will pay at the hotel.
