Hi Melinda,

Happy happy New Year! Today is my first day at work and I must say "what a struggle"!

What an awesome trip...we had so much fun.
We started the trip on the sour note,as our departure flight from JHB was delayed by a good 12 hrs. It safe to say, that we now know the international departures section of the airport, like the back of our hand! However, Air Madagascar personnel (in Joburg) were very apologetic and informative (we were given food vouchers)....which eased our 12 hr stay at the airport.
Upon arrival, we were pleased to find someone waiting for us at the airport and what a pleasant surprise hotel Pavilion de l'Myerh was. The hotel staff was wonderful and very friendly (we felt at home) and the room was LOVELY! Actually, I would recommend this hotel for all your clients if they are staying in Tana (it's a wonderful boutique guest house, with modern "French" finishing's).
The next day we flew to Sainte Marie - Vani Vola (bungalows). Sante Marie is a small "rural" island , with an amazing - natural/unspoilt coast line, with beautiful beaches. In comparison to Pavilion de l'Myerh, Vani Vola was ok...overall the deco was a bit outdated, but liveable and clean. However, the hotel staff and the dinner menu, made up for the bland deco. They were absolutely GREAT!
However, if I were to do the trip again, I would however opt to stay in Ile Aux Nattes...which is across a small channel from Sainte Marie. There are some lovely bungalows on that side and the beach is amazing....crystal clear WARM waters! I There is "hotel" that's owned by South Africans there, with lovely bungalows and a great restaurant, with awesome food. A few days later we flew back to Tana (where we had earlier made acquaintances with a VERY good looking policeman at the airport), he took us on a journey through the heart of Tana (this was a cultural eye-opener). The market was crazy, with people and cars rushing in every which way. We were very fortunate to have found our own personal tour guide, who spoke English (as very few people speak English or French in Tana) and the fact that he was a policemen, was an added bonus.

So to sum up our holiday... TRULY AMAZING! If your clients are looking for a beach holiday with 5 star treatment, I would recommend they go to the Bahamas instead, because Madagascar is a simple African country, with great down-to-earth-people and amazing beaches. For those that do venture out to Madagascar, please note that flying Air Madagascar in Madagascar is an adventure on its own. They must arrive
3-4 hours ahead of departure, because seats are assigned on a first come first serve basis (regardless of booking). Departure times are changed on the spur of the moment (basically if there's a plane and pilot available....Air Madagascar takes off), so they need to be waiting at the door (outside the tarmac) lol! Mpho and I laughed, when we were told that only one of us would make it to Sante Marie, the other person would have to go via Reunion...however after about 15 mins of huffs and puffs from the check in counter people, we finally made it onto a 10 seater (1970's aircraft)! Ohhh WHAT A RIDE!

For one to truly enjoy Madagascar, you must have a sense of humour and adventure and lots of patience! Overall the service the we received from African Encounters and the Ground Handler was very professional and superb. This was a memorable holiday and we are looking forward to booking Kenya-Mombasa, Tanzania-Zanzibar, Malawi and Mozambique with you!
Thanks Melinda for all your help and looking forward to booking our next trip!
Kind regards,
Khosi
Ps. FYI , we didn't pay airport taxes nor did we need passport pics for Visas.
