Mosoandra Lodge

Back to accommodation guide

The hotel

Just to the east of Madagascar lies the beautiful St. Marie Island, a place that was once the haven of pirates and is still a meeting place of humpback whales. Today, there are several hotels on the island, including the charming Masoandro Lodge. The bungalows that make up the lodge are located on a hillside that overlooks the water.

The lodge is very close to the Ikalalao Forest as well as the beach, which makes it a great choice for those looking to experience the wildlife and tropical plants as well as take a dip on the ocean. You can even book a tour to see the only known pirate cemetery.

In the evening, you can grab a cocktail at the outdoor beach bar and then head to the entertainment area and watch as locals perform traditional Malagasy dances.
Whether you choose to take an excursion, swim among the coral gardens, or just relax poolside, you are sure to have a great time. There is something for everyone at the Masoandro lodge.

The rooms

All of the thatched bungalows overlook the sea and are built of traditional materials and in the traditional Malagasy style. All of the bungalows contain large comfortable beds, mosquito nets, and ceiling fans to keep the place cool. They also have a private bathroom and a view of the sea from the private terrace.
For families, four larger bungalows were recently added. They are twice the size of the regular bungalows, and include satellite television, air conditioning, and a private garden.

Dining

The restaurant serves up a mix of cuisines that are sure to delight the palate. Most of the fare is traditional Malagasy or European. The beach bar also serves up BBQ, which is a real treat after a fun filled day.
