l'Heure Bleue Hotel

Back to accommodation guide

The hotel
The L'heure Bleue Hotel is a truly magical resort that faces the bay of Ambatoloaka and sits on Madirokely Beach. The hotel is the best place on the island to experience what people call the “blue hour.” This term is meant to describe the time of day when the light from the dying sun takes on a gorgeous variety of ever changing hues. It is a truly remarkable sight, which many guests enjoy from the unique freshwater swimming pool not far from the sea. Beside the swimming pool is the thatched roof bar, which provides drinks and a cool place to relax. Guests at the Heure Bleue are sure to find an activity that suits them, whether it is snorkeling, canoeing, fishing, or just spending the day lazing in the sun with a tropical drink in their hand.

After a fine dinner at the hotel restaurant, guests often enjoy a cocktail from the thatched roof bar next to the swimming pool, which provides drinks and another place for guests to relax. The terrace lounge, where many visitors take their drinks, is built on stilts and extends toward the sea. It provides a gorgeous view.

There are a total of 11 bungalows set amid tropical gardens at the resort, each of which has a private terrace with a view of the ocean. Among other amenities, the bungalows include ceiling fans, mini bar, telephone (local only), writing desk, private bathroom, mosquito nets, wifi, and a room safe. 3 of the bungalows have an upstairs bedroom, which is great when the entire family is vacationing together.

The Heure Bleue is a full service resort, but it still manages to retain that atmosphere of privacy and intimacy that so many guests crave. The management staff is very attentive and takes wonderful care of their guests. French, Malagasy, and some English are spoken at the hotel, so guests should have no trouble communicating their needs.

In addition to all the hotel has to offer, the nightlife and restaurants of Ambatoloaka are close enough to the hotel that guests can walk, but far enough away that the bustle and noise never reach the hotel.
This is a great place for honeymooners, couples, divers, and families alike. Spending time at the Heure Bleue is akin to spending time in paradise.

The rooms
Traditional construction meets modern comfort in each of the 11 bungalows at the Heure Bleue. Three of the bungalows have an upstairs, perfect for families or groups of friends. All rooms include ceiling fans, bathtubs, refrigerators, telephones for local calls, television, mosquito nets, a writing desk, and a room safe.
Dining
The restaurant is for hotel guests only, and serves both salads and a cold buffet at lunchtime. If guests wish to have dinner at the hotel, they must book in advance. There are plenty of restaurants in the nearby town of Ambatoloaka, which are just a quick walk down the beach, however.
