The Seychelles archipelago is known for their granite rock and coral formations. For many years the islands were formed by the rock and coral. By the 1700s the islands were discovered by the French and inhabited, though not all 115 islands have a population. The Seychelles are just off the east coast of Africa and north of Madagascar. Each island has its own beauty with rich forests offering cinnamon, palms, and vanilla trees. White sandy beaches with crystal clear seas welcome visitors each year to this tropical paradise.
Praslin Island is the second largest formation in the Seychelles offering a balance of forest and beach to shelter the wildlife. The Vallee de Mai is the islands forest housing Black Parrots and the famous coco de mer palms. To arrive on Praslin guests must either take a short fifteen minute flight or a forty- five minute ferry ride from Mahe Island.
Mahe Island is the largest island in terms of square kilometers. It is also home to the Seychelles International Airport and capital city, Victoria. Guests who will stay at L’Hirondelle Guest House can find their way from Mahe to Praslin with ease.
L’Hirondelle has one house and four apartments, which are all self catering. The guest house is ideal for the larger family looking for privacy and entertainment. Guests can independently meet their needs at the L’Hirondelle guest house with its numerous amenities. The guest house has an open patio with furniture, books, air conditioning, television, telephone, and even a balcony in the main bedroom.
The Beach House has three double bedrooms. One bedroom has an in suite bathroom. The living room is spacious with comfortable chairs and sofa. There is a full kitchen with all utensils and appliances one needs to cook. Each room has a ceiling fan.
The apartments offer a double bedroom, shower and water closet, kitchenette, living area, ceiling fan, and a veranda with sea view. Each room is provided with a daily cleaning, regular sheet and towel replacement, washing facilities, and continental breakfast.
Dining at L’Hirondelle Guest House will include a continental breakfast. All other meals are the responsibility of the guest. The house and apartments have kitchens allowing guests to set up their own meals. Guests can also visit the many Praslin restaurants close to the guest house.
Restaurants, dive centers, transportation, and entertainment venues are all close to L’Hirondelle Guest House. It is possible to get on the taxi boat to hop between islands or rent a private charter for scuba diving and picnics. Scuba diving is perhaps the most sought pastime in the Seychelles with their coral reefs and diverse marine life. The coral reefs are home to sea turtles, sea urchins, reef shark, and many other marine organisms. There are three marine national parks in the Seychelles, two of which can be found on Mahe Island. The third is just offshore of Praslin and Mahe Island. It includes six islands and plenty of dive spots. Snorkeling is provided too.
Anyone wanting a bit of a different tour of Praslin than from a boat can visit Vallee de Mai. Vallee de Mai is a well preserved forest with various plant and animal species to increase your awareness of nature. The forest is home to the rare Black Parrot found in the Seychelles. If guests keep a watchful eye they may spot more than one of these parrots.
The beaches of Praslin are well known, meaning guests will find plenty of enjoyment by sunbathing and swimming in the Indian Ocean if they wish to stay near their accommodations.
