Tropical Village, Mombasa

Tropical Village, Mombasa

Tropical Village Hotel is a beautiful all-inclusive holiday resort off the coast of Malindi in Kenya. It is about 5 minutes’ drive from the Town of Malindi and easily accessible by road. The hotel faces the beautiful Indian Ocean and Malindi Marine Park, and offers its guests stunning white beaches and tranquil waters.
The hotel forms part of a chain of three hotels, Tropical Village, Coconut Village and Malindi Beach. These three share some great amenities but manage to retain their own unique flavour. Tropical Village is surrounded by immaculate tropical gardens and is truly a coastal paradise.

Upon arrival we immediately liked the place. The entrance of the hotel is furnished in a classic African theme - tables with spices for decoration, chunky comfortable armchairs and beautiful wood and makuti structures. The buildings are built in a traditional Masai Manyatta semi-circle and are on two levels. They are decorated in either Lamu or English style and blend in perfectly with the picturesque surrounds.
The public areas are spacious and beautifully decorated, and as an added bonus, the three hotels are streets away from the other resorts in Malindi, making them rather exclusive.
The property is stretched along half a kilometre of pristine white beaches encircled by a coral reef. This makes for still waters and great snorkelling and scuba diving. Another great pastime at Tropical Village is game fishing. The area is well-known for its billfish species and in particular the regal sailfish. Marlin, Wahoo, Tuna and Dorado are also popular. Six boats are available for deep sea fishing, including a 35 ft Bertram, a 34 ft Striker, a 33 ft Aquabell, a 31 ft and a 37 ft Sportfisher and a 25 ft centre consol fibreglass boat with ample shade and a good casting platform.

If you’re weary of the waters or looking for some great land-bound activities, you won’t be disappointed. The resort complex has great beach, pool and disco bars, 2 good restaurants and a lovely beachfront for lounging in the sun and doing as little as possible. There are also two pools if you’re after a cool dip in the water. All the beaches and pools have sun loungers, beach umbrellas and towels to make guests as comfortable as possible.
Live music and entertainment is available at night, while the daytime offers great activities and performances. There are also tons of sports available, from table tennis to archery, water polo, beach soccer, darts, windsurfing, canoeing, sailing and beach volleyball. Guests from all three hotels are welcome to enjoy any of the resort facilities, including the bars, pools and restaurants.

Off the property we also found great places to visit and things to do. For the historians there’s the Gede Ruins, the Vasco Da Gama Pillar and the interesting Portuguese Chapel. And if you’re more into nature and game viewing, there are various safaris to the Masai Mara, Tsavo, Amboseli and Nakuru Parks.

At Tropical Village you’ll never be bored. Whether you prefer a quiet afternoon of soaking up the Kenyan sun or an eventful Marine Park snorkelling excursion, this place won’t disappoint. Tropical Village is absolutely fantastic and we highly recommend it!
The rooms
The hotel has 114 rooms of which 24 are Junior Suites and 90 are Superior rooms. Twelve of these Superior rooms have interleading doors that make them ideal for families. You can choose between Arabesque Lamu style and English style rooms. Our room was large and airy, with wooden floorboards and pretty furnishings. Our bed was really interesting with its wooden frame of geometric blocks holding up the beautifully draped mosquito nets.

All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms with hand basins, showers, bidets and a WC. They also have air conditioners with individual controls, ceiling fans and a mini fridges (stocked for Junior Suites), telephones, hairdryers, shaver sockets, in-room safes and luggage racks.

The hotel is disability friendly and the ground floor rooms are easily accessible by guests in wheelchairs.

All the rooms have balconies or terraces that overlook the property’s gardens.
