Nyali Beach Hotel

Nyali Beach Hotel

Nyali Beach Hotel is one of our favourite hotels in Mombasa. Located in Nyali Beach, about 10 km away from Mombasa and around 14 km away from Moi International.
This place just oozes history and colonial charm. This was Mombasa’s first hotel, originally built way back in 1946 by John and Eva Noon. The whole history is contained on the walls of the main lounge are in the hotel and makes for very good reading. They also show how difficult it was to build and run a hotel in those days.

Nyali Beach has come a long way and all around the place you will find hints of their history, for example the absolutely awesome “Harry’s Bar” which is an incredible old English pub which contains all sorts of antique artifacts, has the typical old English pub feel, yet is in the middle of Africa. A couple of drinks in the pub are definitely recommended.
The hotel is also located near some pretty interesting historical sights, for example the Freetown Bell which is situated at the Nyali Road Junction, was erected by the Society of Freed Slaves in the 1880’s to warn Freretown of any impending attack by Arab Slavers. The largest crocodile farm in Kenya (Mamba Village) is also just down the road, for those who would be interested. There is plenty of history and culture available to those who wish to find it.

For those wanting beach, sun and sand, Nyali Beach is fantastically beautiful. With typically tropical, palm fringed, powdery white beaches and azure waters, it is a tropical paradise. The hotel has plenty to offer you in terms of water sports and activities with 2 large swimming pools, full water sports centre including catamarans, pedaloes, boogie boards, 2 free scuba diving lessons for free, diving and deep sea fishing. They also have 2 floodlit tennis courts, beach volleyball, nature walks and cultural tours if you wish to go.

We love this place as it has a warm feel, great history and location.

The rooms
There are a total of 170 rooms in the hotel divided into two sections.

The Palm Wing consists of rooms closer to the beach. There are 54 rooms in this wing and an executive suite. The rooms all have two double beds, are en suite with sea views. They also have satellite TV, air conditioning, own balcony, small sitting room area, mini bar and coffee making facilities. The rooms also have bath/shower combinations. They also include direct phone facilities, hair dryers and 220.115V shaver sockets in the bathrooms.
The other side consists of the Garden Wing which has 116 twin rooms. These rooms are further away from the ocean and enjoy views of the landscaped gardens. They have the same facilities as the Palm Wing.

All rooms are beautifully decorated in a classic African theme with plenty woven cane furniture. They are bright and refreshing and very comfortable.
