Coconut Village, Mombasa

Please Note: Coconut Village will be closed from the 9th of January to the end of January 2008

Coconut Village is a picturesque vacation resort set on a stretch of Silversands beach in Malindi, Kenya. It is within 5 minutes’ drive from the town of Malindi and easily accessible by car. The resort is known for its beautiful white beaches and tranquil azure seas.

Coconut village forms part of a trio of hotels that make for a well equipped resort with 5 swimming pools, 3 bars, 2 restaurants and great entertainment. Its sister hotels, Tropical Village (70m away) and Malindi Beach (50m away) have their own unique look and flavour, and offer excellent alternatives to Coconut Village’s own great facilities. The Tropical Village restaurant for one, offers great food and delicious desserts.

The five freeform swimming pools are large and beautifully maintained, offering a welcome solace from the hot Kenyan sun. All the pools and the beachfront have sun loungers, parasols and towels for guests to use, free of charge – ensuring your every comfort.

The resort offers tons of activities during the days and the nights, ranging from animation activities such as watergym, aerobics, stretching and ocean walking; live entertainment, snorkelling excursions, deep sea fishing and archery during the daytime, to clubbing and sipping cocktails at night (the resort has its own disco bar).

The property is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens and great big palm trees. The fusion of international influences is visible in the architecture and dιcor of the rooms where Lamu, Swahili and Arab influences give a true feeling of paradise, while creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Avid anglers will love this place for its great game fishing. The area is known for its billfish and boasts the highest concentration of the prized sailfish in the world. Other trophies include Marlin (Blue, Black and Striped), Tuna, Dorado and Wahoo, as well as a great variety of shark. Six well-equipped boats are available to take you out onto the deep waters for a great day of fishing.

The area surrounding Coconut Village and its sisters has quite a bit of history and culture to offer the discerning tourist. Popular sights include the Vasco Da Gama Pillar, the Portuguese Chapel and the mysterious Gede Ruins – a twelfth century Swahili village that was inexplicably deserted 600 years ago – without any indication of a cause. The ruins share a site with the Kipepeo Butterfly Project – an innovative community upliftment programme that teaches the local people to breed the unique butterflies of the Arabuko-Sokoke forest. These specimens are sent to live butterfly displays around the world and bring in quite a bit of money.

Coconut beach is a fabulous hotel with great activities for the active and adventurous, as well as beautiful beaches and swimming pools where you can lounge around, doing as little as possible. We simply loved this place for its pretty surrounds and good service. Highly recommended!

The rooms
We immediately fell in love with our room with its very personal with typical Lamu dιcor and a beautiful queen size canopy bed, draped with mosquito nets (very ‘Arabian Nights’). The hotel has 45 rooms of which 12 have sea views and the remainder pool and garden views. Eight of the rooms are interleading and therefore ideal for families.

The rooms are situated in 2 level bungalow blocks and are fitted with wooden furnishings, luggage racks, air-conditioners with individual controls, ceiling fans, large en-suite bathrooms, personal safes, mini bars and telephones. All the rooms have terraces with comfortable African Sofas.
