Indigo Bay Resort

Located on gorgeous Bazaruto Island, Indigo Bay Resort is the perfect island getaway destination in the Indian Ocean.  The island is the largest in the Mozambican archipelago and the area is prime for scuba diving adventures.  Guests can see over 100 species of coral, thousands of different tropical fish, five kinds of dolphins, the largest population of the rare dugong and all five types of marine sea turtle.

Scuba diving and seeing the marine life is not the only thing this luxury resort offers its guests.  Run by the Rani Resorts, Indigo Bay is situated on the white sand beaches of Bazaruto and the resort offers its guests the opportunity to unwind in luxury.  There is a restaurant and bar on the premise as well as other options in the surrounding area.  There are also a swimming pools, diving pool, and activity centre that will coordinate water sports, fishing, and diving activities for its guests.  They also have a business centre available for those guests who need Internet services while they are vacationing that can also accommodate meetings of up to 60 people.  A children’s leisure centre is also located on the premises, as children are invited to Indigo Bay.

The diving pool is designed for guests to practice their diving skills or take one of the many diving courses available before going and exploring the Indian Ocean with a guide.  For those who are not interested in diving or partaking in water sports, guests can enjoy the spa treatments at the Sanctuary Spa.  The spa itself offers guest 1300 square meters of space that include five treatment rooms, an ice pool, wet room, hydrotherapy pool, health bar, and relaxation area.  Some of the many treatment choices include Swedish massages, milk baths, body wraps and more. Many of the ingredients used in their products are made from indigenous Cape plants.

Indigo Bay Resort and its parent company, Rani Resorts, are very big into working with the community.  They have helped build community centres, implement AIDS and malaria prevention programmes, set up transport and water access for the local residents, and helped stimulate the community’s gardens and market to provide fresh produce to the area.  Schools, health care facilities, adult education programmes, and conservation programmes to preserve the ecosystem have also been benefited by the resort and Rani.

The Indigo Bay Resort offers guests five different dining options.  The Golfinho Restaurant, the main dining room at the resort, offers guests luxurious meals specializing in seafood dinners.  The Neptune Bar offers guests cocktails and light fair food and drinks.  Tartaruga is the wet pool bar, great for light sandwiches and poolside drinks, and the Magaluti Bar – the resorts boma for traditional Africa outdoor meals around the fire.

Activities

With the warm waters of the Indian Ocean surrounding one side of Mozambique, there are plenty of water activities available along the coast line.  The Bazaruto Marine National Park around Indigo Bay offers guests some of the most stunning and diverse views of coral reefs and marine life in the world.  From moray eels, stingrays, kingfish and barracuda to pelagic game fish and other tropical species, there is plenty for the diver to enjoy.

Just as impressive is the fishing the Mozambique coast line offers.  Practicing a catch and release policy, guests can experience some of the most exciting fishing in the world.  Some of the species that can be caught include giant black marlin, sailfish, and wahoo.  Other water sports include water-skiing, wake boarding, knee boarding, kayaking, windsurfing, and Hobicat sailing.

Dune boarding is a popular sport that can be enjoyed by all of the family, as well as bird watching and the exploration of the local fauna and flora.  Sunset and island cruises to Paradise Island are available from Indigo Bay, as well as whale and dolphin watching during the right season when they come in to give birth to their young.  Cultural drives, horseback riding, lit tennis courts, golf course, and more are all available to guests staying at Indigo Bay Resort.

Indigo Bay

Hi Farzanah,
African Encounters service was great , thank you.
Indigo Bay very nice - amazing service over the top really.
Would recommend people stay in the Honeymoon chalets as you are right on the beach and closer to nature.
The villas were great but far from the beach which makes you feel a bit disjointed if I went back would not go to the villa.

Thanks for your help , we will chat again.
