Hotel Ocean is found at Anse Patates on the north point of La Digue Island. La Digue is considered the most beautiful of the Seychelles archipelago by the locals. The Seychelles are comprised of 115 islands of varying sizes. La Digue is the fourth largest island, with about 2,000 residents for a population. Much of the population is found on the western coast.
Surrounding La Digue Island are Praslin, Mahe, and La Reunion. The total area of La Digue is 10 kilometers squared. The location of the hotel allows you views of Felecitie, Grand Soeur, Petite Soeur, and Marianne Islands. There is a mixture of solitude and a pleasant environment that make Hotel L’Ocean perfect for relaxation for families and couples. Your stay will be complete with beautiful views, sea breezes, and luxuriant surroundings. Rent a bicycle to tour around the hotel and island, knowing the furthest point is less than 5 kilometers from Hotel L’Ocean.
All of the rooms at Hotel L’Ocean provide a private balcony, sea views, air conditioning, ceiling fan, and en-suite bathroom. The bathrooms have showers, rather than tubs. Also included in the room are a small fridge and adapters for any appliances you bring. The rooms do not have radios or television to ensure all guests can find their quiet. Extra towels can be provided, along with internet at reception.
There is one restaurant at Hotel L’Ocean which serves a full menu or a la carte based on your choice. The cuisine is Creole, and you can expect live music at least every two to three days during the dinner hour. From the restaurant there are sea views and covered dining.
La Digue is known as the Pearl of the Seychelles, due to its white sandy beaches, lagoons, granite rocks, and tropical swamp. Anse Source D’Argent is where you will find the most impressive granite rocks that formed over many years into the smooth surfaces you will see today. While you are at the beach, you can walk around the amazing rocks or swim out into the ocean for an underwater view of the granite and coral. Tropical fish and marine mammals gather on the coral reefs making an underwater show for divers and snorkelers.
Water sports are only half of the activities La Digue can offer. Boat charters for fishing and pleasure cruises can be found. You may decide on a slow sail around the island or a motor boat. Either option allows you to tour the various nearby islands for a day or overnight experience. Mahe is the largest island in the Seychelles. You may want to take a boat over there to visit the three marine national parks or the UNESCO World Heritage site. You will notice the difference in cultures from Mahe to La Digue Islands, which is yet another attraction to the Seychelles.
If you want a little land time rent a car or bicycle to bring you to Veuve Nature Reserve. This nature reserve has some of the last remaining Black Paradise Flycatchers in existence. You may be able to spot a few of them. The island’s tallest peak is also in the central island section. At the reserve you’ll have a chance to hike Eagle’s Nest Mountain or Belle Vue. It is 300 meters above sea level, offering you a view of the entire island and Indian Ocean from the top.
La Digue is known for one more thing- the tropical swamp. It is possible to canoe or kayak up the swamp a little ways for a different watery adventure. In the swamp are different creatures, along with plants and palm trees. Peace of mind and relaxation are attainable with a slow meandering cruise through the swamp. At the end of the day the beach will still be waiting for you.
