Casa Rex overlooks the Bazaruto Archipelago along the Indian Ocean in Mozambique. The beautiful turquoise waters of the bay make a great spot for a romantic getaway, and guests will find themselves enjoying sundowners on the lodge’s terrace. The area offers guests a wide variety of things to do and places to go in this part of the country.
The lodge actually views the south-central part of Vilanculos Bay, an area that is known for its hospitality and graciousness. With its lush gardens, lounge, swimming pool, and restaurant, guests at Casa Rex will enjoy their stay. Accommodations include rooms or suites for the guest’s luxury and each of them are decorated in an individual style that is unique and comfortable. There is also a bar at the main lodge, secure parking and simply minutes from the white sand beaches common along the Indian Ocean.
Each room and suite at Casa Rex is decorated elegantly and there is an emphasis on the lounge and dining areas of each. They all include en-suite bathrooms with showers, ceiling fans, mosquito netting, window shutters, air conditioning, internet access and private balconies or terrace.
The eight Acacia rooms come with all of the above. Rooms one through four have two single beds, and five through eight with one double bed. The four premium suites come with all of the above as well. Rooms one and two provide guests with two single beds, a daybed in the sitting area, and room for two additional single beds for larger family accommodations. Room three has double beds, and additional stand alone bath, and room four has three single beds. The courtyard suite has one double bed, private dressing area, en-suite shower, and large terrace in addition to all of the above mentioned amenities.
Casa Rex’s restaurant serves lunch and dinner and offers its guests an a la carte menu that includes selections such as: chicken liver pate or smoke fish pate; squid in garlic and lemon butter; mini sea food platters; curries of all flavours; and dessert such as ‘Death by Chocolate’. All of the hot dishes are served with coconut rice or chips.
Casa Rex is located in the middle of a wide selection of activities in Vilankulos. The resort will gladly make reservation and activity arrangements for their guests, and they will provide transportation to and from the activities if the guest requires it.
Guests who enjoy water sports will be interested in diving off the coast of Mozambique as it is considered one of the top 10 diving destinations in the world. There are PADI scuba courses available for guests who request it. Snorkeling around the Bazaruto Archipelago provides guests with beautiful views of the reefs and fish. Game fishing, deep sea fishing and whale and dolphin watching are all available under guidance. The whale and dolphin expeditions should be booked in advance so guests can go out with a trained marine biologist. Sunset cruises, Dhow trips to the archipelago, canoeing, waterskiing, and donut rides are also available.
More nature minded guests will enjoy a guided island walk throughout the archipelago, and they can explore the beaches and other areas of the islands. Some guests may even get to see crocodiles if they are lucky. The area is also great for bird watching. Horseback riding for riders of all levels is available as well, affording guests a unique view of the islands. Guests can also hire a vehicle and go on self-drive safaris.
Additional restaurants can be explored in Vilankulos that offer international cuisine and for those guests who are looking for pampering; there are plenty of places that offer massages ranging from full body to just neck massages.
All guests should be advised that the activity costs are not included in the lodging costs, and do cost extra. Additionally, some of the activities require a minimum amount of participants and will not be confirmed until the maximum amount of people is reached.
