Mahe Island makes up one of the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean. About 90 percent of the population lives in Victoria, the capital city of Mahe Island. Much of the population is therefore found in the north and east sectors. The Seychelles are made up of 115 islands just northeast of Madagascar. The tropical location presents a number of activities and water sports for one to enjoy.
On Mahe Island Morne Seychellois National Park encompasses the largest peak of the island called Morne Seychellois. It rises above the rest of the island by 905 meters. In the southern and western sections of Mahe Island are Port Launay Marine National Park, Baie Ternay Marine National Park, and Ste. Anne Marine National Park. Ste. Anne is offshore from Mahe Island containing six islands to cruise around. Also in the nearby vicinity are Conception Island, Therese Island, Silhouette Island, and Anonyme Island.
Mahe Island, as a tourist destination for tropical getaways has several resorts including Blue Lagoon. Blue Lagoon provides several spacious bungalows with tropical gardens, ocean views, and the beach only a few steps away. The entire resort has a particularly French architecture with red tile roof and white adobe walls.
The bungalows offer two bedrooms with an attached bathroom, full kitchen, and living and dining area. The living area opens out into the terrace which faces the Indian Ocean. Visitors will have views of the island and surrounding mountains. A daily maid service is offered as part of the stay, and a cook is available for an extra charge. Books, television, and telephone are part of the amenities.
The chalets are built with red tile roofing, adobe walls, and wooden floors. The architecture of each bungalow is typical of coastal France, with an eye towards comfort, privacy and relaxation. The bungalows have indoor furniture such as dining table and chairs. They also have patio furniture for eating outdoors or relaxing with a good book. The beds can be either twin or queen sized depending on preference. The en- suite bathrooms are set between the two bedrooms.
The only dining at Blue Lagoon Chalets is in the fully equipped kitchens. It is possible to hire a cook for an extra hourly charge. Otherwise, guests will be responsible for their meals and what the meals encompass. Blue Lagoon is close enough to surrounding Mahe Island restaurants.
The tropical garden located at Blue Lagoon can offer plenty of activity for walking, sunbathing, and reading a book. The sandy beach and Indian Ocean make up the other activities available at Blue Lagoon. Visitors can rent scuba diving, snorkeling, or water sports equipment on Mahe Island to use during their stay at Blue Lagoon.
The island itself offers a plethora of entertainments from live music at restaurants, tennis and other sports to hiking and boat tours. Morne Seychellois National Park covers much of the island, where it is possible to hike Morne Seychellois Mountain. It is 905 meters in height, with a winding path up to the summit. Baie Ternay Marine National Park and Port Launay Marine National Park are two preserves along the coast of Mahe Island. There is also Ste. Anne Marine National Park which lies offshore from the island. The park encompasses six islands: Ste. Anne Island, Round Island, Ile Cachee, Cerf Island, Long Island, and Moyenne Island. The total area for the island is 14.43 kilometers, with 3.80 square kilometers as the land area. Visitors can set up boat excursions to dive and cruise around the marine parks or visit nearby Islands in the Seychelles Archipelago.
Conception Island, Anonyme Island, Silhouette Island, and Therese Island make up four nearby pieces of land to visit for fishing, diving, and boat tours.
Location: Blue Lagoon Chalets are located at Anse a La Mouche on the coast of Mahe Island. The chalets are minutes from the International Airport and Victoria, the capital city.
