About Amaan Bungalows

This is where it all happens in Nungwi. After burning down two years ago, the owners have restored the place to almost its original state, with the exception of a couple of new additions and nicer rooms.

The hotel is locally owned and run by a Kenyan chap, Andrew. They are centrally located in Nungwi, making them easily accessible to the villages and surrounding areas. We like the vibe of the place, as it is always busy, there is always something to do or a place to go. They have a festive pub in the Blue Sea restaurant which can go on until the early hours of the morning. If you enjoy partying, then this pub, together with Cholos just up the road, should keep you going during your stay.

Rooms

Amaan Bungalows' rooms have been divided up into 4 categories, however, we will not sell type D rooms, as they are way too basic.

The best rooms by far are the Sea Front Rooms. These 5 rooms are located just about in the ocean on a cliff. They have a fantastic balcony where you can sit and overlook the ocean enjoying cocktails. These rooms are bigger than the other rooms, and come furnished in a Zanzibar style. The rooms could do with a womans touch though, just to make it that little bit cozier. They have en suite bathrooms with hot water.

The 10 Type A rooms are located behind the sea front rooms in a U shape facing on to the gardens. These are comfortable with en suite bathrooms and a hot water shower.

They have 14 type B rooms, located further away from the beachfront. These are pretty basic, with en suite facilities, but only cold water in their showers. It is very hot in Zanzibar, and often hot water is not a prerequisite, however if you like that little bit of warmth in your water, then the Type A rooms would definitely be better.

The 10 Type C rooms are for backpackers with shared ablution facilities and are very basic.

All rooms have mosquito nets and ceiling fans

Dining

The hotel has 3 restaurants, Fat Fish Restaurant, Lion Fish Restaurant and Blue Sea Restaurant. The blue sea has replaced the old fish king restaurant since their rebuilding. Breakfasts are served in the Blue Sea Restaurant, which consists of a buffet of eggs, fresh fruit, variety of breads and fresh juice.

Lunches and dinners are served at the Fat Fish or Lion King and are a combination of local cuisine and international food. Seafood is always a specialty here. All dinners and lunches are served from the a la carte menu. The food is very good, and you also have a large variety of other restaurants in the area (within walking distance) if you wish to try something else.

Amaan Bungalows- Garden View Room

Hi Farzanah,

Thanks, we had a very nice holiday!

I thought that the service from African Encounters was great and the ground handler was on time and reliable.

The accommodation at Amaan Bungalows was basic but it was clean and the area we stayed in was very ‘vibey’ which we enjoyed. We did think that the breakfast and restaurant service at Amaan was terrible and we were quite disappointed with that.

Overall we thought the people were friendly, the beaches in the tourist areas were beautiful and there was a lot to do. We also found that there was a lot of pollution all over the island.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Kind regards,

Amaan Bungalows

Hi Rina,

Just came across your email and thought I'd give some belated feedback on our trip. It was superb, just too short! Accommodation (Amaan Bungalows and Dhow Palace) and food were excellent and very reasonable, and the guys who did the transfers were great - very professional, always on time, no hiccups at all. Also, if anyone asks you to recommend a dive charter in Nungwi, we went with Spanish Dancer and they were excellent.

Thanks for your help with the booking, we'll certainly use you guys again.

Regards
Stan Anderson

Amaan Bungalows - Deluxe room

Hi Farzanah

Our holiday went very well, thank you. In fact, I'm still bummed to be back in the city. So much so that I have a nice little daydream going about how I'm going to escape and go live on a paradise island. . .

I have no real complaints about the trip. The people were friendly and the level of service was pretty good. Generally, the language barrier was a bit frustrating although I suspect it's the same all over the island. There could be a bit more variety at breakfast, though.

We were met and transported by your ground handler. We also chose to arrange our sightseeing with them - Stone Town, Spice Tour and Safari Blue. Overall I was quite satisfied that we got value for money for their service.

Thank you very much for your assistance with arranging our holiday. I shall be passing your details on to a friend of mine who is thinking of a trip sometime this year.

Kind regards

Dear Farzanah

First of all, thank you very much to African Encounters and Pentravel for an unforgettable holiday....the organisation was superb...!!

Amaan Bungalows was beyond our expectation....the rooms were clean and well kept, the food was very very good and all the staff were so friendly and helpful....from the cleaners to the managers.... Our transfers to and from the hotel was to our satisfaction, as well as the trip to Fuma Island we organised with African Encounters.

I will gladly recommend your services to all my friends...in fact....I have done so already.

Once again, thank you for your service.

All the best for the festive season, and joy and happiness for 2012.
