Acajou Hotel was built on the Cote D’or Beach in Praslin, Seychelles. The Seychelles archipelago consists of 115 islands. In terms of area Praslin is the second largest with 38 square kilometers and a population of 6,500. It is a short flight from Mahe Island, where the international airport is located. Guests can take small flights or the ferry to the island to reach Acajou Hotel.
Acajou Hotel is named after a tropical mahogany. The Acajou trees were cultivated in a man-made forest in order to create environmentally friendly buildings and homes. The trees were grown in southern Africa. On the island the Acajou hotel is set among rare palms where Black Parrots live. It is near the Coco de Mer valley, which has also been called the Garden of Eden for its sheer beauty. Praslin is noted for its beaches because they are clean, white sandy stretches unlike any beaches in the world.
The hotel is located on the northern coast of Praslin near the local airport. From the hotel it is possible to see Dennis Island, and visit such places as The Sisters, Felicite, and La Digue.
The hotel rooms at Acajou use the mahogany from the trees the hotel is named after. The wood adds a tasteful ambience, and guests can feel peace and comfort while there. Acajou Hotel has 32 rooms separated by casuarinas and takamaka trees, which run along the water’s edge. The rooms all have a balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean. There are 24 standard rooms, 4 superior, and 4 deluxe rooms. Each room offers en-suite bath with shower, hair dryer, IDD telephone, television, air conditioning, mini bar, mini fridge, and piped music.
Acajou Hotel has two places to eat: the Main Bar and the Beach Bar and Restaurant. The Main restaurant/ bar has breakfast and dinner. It opens up into the garden with frangipani, takamaka trees, and hibiscus bushes surrounding guests. Dinner tends to be a mix of table d’hote and buffet style meals with international and Creole cuisine. The main bar offers a myriad of drinks and tropical cocktails. The other dining location is near the beach of Cote D’or. Guests will find light a la carte menu items, along with cocktails and cooling drinks.
Praslin is an island with numerous wonders to explore. Guests can rent bicycles, water sporting equipment or sign up for an Island excursion. Within walking distance of the hotel is a casino. Water sports consist of snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, surfing, fishing, and other options. Scuba diving in Praslin and the nearby Seychelles Islands is amazing with coral reefs, partially formed of granite rock. Marine life is abundant in the Indian Ocean with sea turtles, tropical fish, and even reef shark.
Guests may want to visit Mahe Island during their stay to see the marine national parks. There are two marine parks located on the shores of Mahe Island. The third is just off its coast near Digue Island. In fact Ste. Anne Marine National Park has six islands that make up its preserve. A boat charter to the preserve allows visitors to picnic as well as explore the underwater world. Boat charters can also involve deep sea fishing tours that take guests deep out into the Indian Ocean.
Hikers may be interested in an onshore excursion to Vallee de Mai. Vallee de Mai is a forest with coco de mer palms and many other plant species. Praslin is well known for its rare Black Parrot habitat that can be found in the Vallee de Mai. Lizards, snails, and other forest life can be seen on a hike.
