| The
hotel |
Ngorongoro Sopa is the only hotel located on the eastern side of the
crater rim. Also part of a large hotel group it may not be the most
intimate place for an African bush experience, but certainly is one of the
most affordable and is definitely value for money. The lodge is quite large with great views from the main
dining area. They have a great swimming pool area situated right on the
front portion of the hotel, where you can swim and watch the wildlife in
the crater. It may sound a bit strange but this is so. Possibly one of the best aspects of this hotel is it's proximity to
Empakaai Crater and Ol Donyio Lengai, which is Tanzania's only active
volcano. All other lodges have to use a very hair raising road to gain
access to the crater base whilst Sopa have there own road which is far
less harrowing. The staff and especially the manager are very friendly and you will be
assured of a good value for money stay.

| The
rooms |
There are a total of 92 suites in the lodge.
All can be made up into twins, doubles or triples and they all have views
of the crater below. Each room has en suite facilities with a hair dryer,
bath and shower. The rooms also have a solarium with comfortable rocking chairs and a
small lounge area situated in the front of the room. We do not expect that
you would sit in the lounge area, as the view is irresistible. Mini bars
are available on request.
