The hotel
Kirurumu is located a short distance down the road from Serena and is also on the ridge of the Rift Valley wall. The lodge is rustic and has been designed to compliment the Eco-system. Hot water is created by solar panels and all tubing and pipes have been carefully laid underground not to disturb the environment. For some people the lodge might be too rustic, and if you prefer creature comforts then Serena would be a better option. For those who don't mind staying in tents, then this would be ideal. The main building and a few of the accommodation tents have a fantastic view of the valley below. The food we have to admit is not great but the service and staff were good. The owners take great care in supporting the local community, and by staying here you will be contributing towards that development.

The rooms
The lodge has a total of 20 tents (of which 2 are for honeymooners). The tents are very basic but have en suite facilities and hot water. They unfortunately do not have mosquito  nets, so if you stay here, make sure you are well protected. The lower number tents have views facing out onto the valley, whilst the rest face the gardens. Each tent has a wooden veranda, which is fantastic to sit on and view the sunset. Due to the policy of the camp owners not to interfere with the environment, one might think that the gardens are untidy. The tents are very comfortable and are recommended if you want a bit of bush experience.

The facilities
The lodge has the following facilities:
  • Bar and restaurant
  • Curio shop
  • Ethno-botanical walks with knowledgeable and informative local Maasai
  • Mountain Biking.
  • Canoeing
  • Local cultural tours
